The critics at MusicWeb International have rounded-up their picks of the year's releases and chosen their Recordings of the Year. You can read the full list here.
Simon Thompson chose Robin Ticciati's recording of Strauss with DSO Berlin and Louise Alder describing it as "technicolour Strauss, realised on a big scale but effective down to its tiniest detail, and Linn's engineers deserve a medal for the clarity with which they have recorded it."
Nuits by Véronique Gens was chosen by two critics as a Recording of the Year! Michael Cookson said "Gens revels in this collection of enchanting French melodies" whilst Mike Parr described it as "[a] luminous recital of French music by the ever-fascinating Veronique Gens".
Both of Santtu-Matias Rouvali's recordings of Sibelius with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra were chosen as outstanding recordings with critic Ralph Moore praising the "splendid studio recording of Sibelius' wild and wonderful Second Symphony.'"
La Tempête's recording of Monteverdi's Vespers was described by Richard Hanlon as "a gift from the Gods".
And finally Linn's CD boxed set of Mozart recordings (comprising nine symphonies plus the Requiem) by Charles Mackerras and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra was also chosen as a Recording of the Year.
