Robin Ticciati & SCO - Haydn: Symphonies 31, 70 & 101 - Classic FM
This is the first of two recordings in which Robin Ticciati and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra present an overview of Haydn's symphonies. For this album, they present three symphonies in D major from different stages of the composer's career.
Ticciati's approach is to combine the best practices of authentic performance with the added dynamic range, space, colour and life that modern performances have to offer.
The performances sound fresh and exciting: the early, Baroque influenced 'Horn Signal' sounds almost almost Gothic. The later 'Clock' symphony sounds vividly free, with the famous 'tick-tock' movement sounding both delicate and important.
The SCO under their dynamic young conductor are clearly relishing the vivacity and pathos of this under-performed music.
