Reviews
'Imbued with urgency, resolutely theatrical and dramatic, Eschenbach gives a powerful, martial reading of it, scandalized by thundering timpani and twirling strings contrasting with the softness of the woodwinds.'
Res Musica
'In these performances with the admirable Konzerthaus Orchestra, what emerges above all is the uniquely glowing sound of Weber’s orchestration, with its very special use of horns and winds.'
BBC Music Magazine
'Helmchen gives real substance to the Konzertstück ... Eschenbach and the orchestra deserve credit, too, for they match Helmchen’s deft touch and broad colour palette.'
Gramophone
'... it’s the overtures here, including the wonderful The Ruler of the Spirits, that spread most delight, with their sprightly delivery of Weber’s top virtues ...'
