Biography
Regularly engaged at the world’s leading opera houses, she has recently performed at the Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro Real Madrid, the Salzburger Festspiele, the Bolshoi Theatre and Teatro alla Scala. She was a founding member of Vilnius City Opera, has twice been awarded the Golden Stage Cross (the highest award for singers in Lithuania), and was named Best Female Lead in 2019 at the Austrian Music Theater Awards.
Asmik has made a name for herself on both the concert and operatic platforms since her international career began with a triumphant performance in Madama Butterfly at the Royal Swedish Opera. She then went on to conquer role after role including: Salome (described as “a Salome to end all Salomes” (Financial Times), Jenufa, Fedora, Marie in Wozzeck, Manon Lescaut, Marietta in Korngold’s Die tote Stadt, Iolanta, Chrysothemis in Elektra, Rusalka, Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd, and Senta in Der Fliegende Hollander. On the concert stage, she has performed Beethoven IX under Riccardo Muti at the Salzburg Festival and has recorded Shostakovich's Symphony No.14 with Matthias Goerne and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France conducted by Mikko Franck. In 2021, she began a multi- album collaboration with Alpha Classics and has since won a 2022 Gramophone Award for her album Dissonance and was named Female Singer of the Year at the 2023 Opus Klassik Awards.
Asmik works with many of the world’s leading conductors including Valery Gergiev, Franz Welser- Möst, Yves Abel, Vladimir Jurowski, Mikhail Tatarnikov, Alan Gilbert, and frequently collaborates with stage directors including Dmitri Tcherniakov, Romeo Castellucci, and Claus Guth.
She is the official ambassador for the Rimantas Kaukenas Charity.
