Alyn Cosker interview in The Scotsman

"Drummer Cosker marches to his own beat as he prepares to unveil new record" was the title of a piece written by Jim Gilchrist in The Scotsman on the 14th May. Alyn Cosker, whose debut album on Linn Records, ‘Lyn's Une', will be released on the 15th June, is renowned for being an outstanding drummer across genres: "Cosker has laid down impeccable grooves in a bewildering multitude of genres, playing with everyone from international jazz names such as Joe Locke and Lee Konitz to folk-rockers Wolfstone and Isobel Campbell of Belle and Sebastian". ‘Lyn's Une' showcases Alyn's electrifying jazz drumming whilst also demonstrating his influences from other styles.

"The basic idea was to have the trio as the core and augment it in various ways" Alyn stated in the article. In addition to his trio-mates Ross Hamilton and David Dunsmuir, the Ayrshire drummer is joined by several high-class musicians including Tommy Smith on tenor saxophones, Paul Towndrow on soprano and alto saxes, Ryan Quigley on trumpet, Jason Rebello on piano and vocalist Maureen McMullan. The sheer calibre of the musicians is evident in ‘Lyn's Une' and, as Alyn said in The Scotsman, "just to have that mix of musicians was phenomenal".

The album will be launched at The Arches, Glasgow on the 19th June. In the meantime The Alyn Cosker Trio with Tommy Smith will perform at The Lot in Edinburgh on the 22nd May. To catch these truly exceptional musicians live check the tour dates here.
