The Marian Consort Shortlisted For An Award
The shortlist for the 2023 Gramophone Awards has been announced...
Ahead of the annual Award Ceremony on 21st April, the winners of the 2022 International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) have been announced. Among the winners is the critically acclaimed recording on Arcana of the new Rossini Foundation of Pesaro edition of the Petite messe solennelle.
Joining Giulio Prandi to perform this essential masterpiece are four illustrious soloists (Sandrine Piau, José Maria Lo Monaco, Edgardo Rocha and Christian Senn) and the Coro Ghislieri. The special sound world is enhanced by three rare instruments roughly contemporary with the work – pianos by Érard and Pleyel, a Débain harmonium – played here by Francesco Corti, Cristiano Gaudio and Daniel Perer.
Remy Franck, President of the Jury, said, “Our winners are the expression of the highest artistry, and the list of awards shows that our jury is not content with a superficial evaluation of the music industry but performs a comprehensive and in-depth analysis.” Arcana’s Rossini recording stood out from the crowd and secured the win because “we can truly understand the mysteries of the old Rossini, who winks at the opera theatre but from a now distanced perspective”.
