Pamela Thorby to appear in SkyArts' new series
Janet Street-Porter renews her musical 'First Love'...
Pamela Thorby's recordings have been celebrated in a Harmonia podcast. Bernard Gordillo discusses Pamela's recordings from her dazzling solo debut, ‘Baroque Recorder Concertos', to her recent offering, ‘Garden of Early Delights'.
Describing the musician as "one of the world's great players of the recorder...An artist who has produced a number of fine solo recordings that have been acclaimed for their engaging musicianship and technical brilliance", Bernard plays excerpts of tracks from Pamela's recordings whilst examining her performance and style.
‘Garden of Early Delights', in which Pamela is joined by the esteemed harpist Andrew Lawrence-King, is described as "beautiful and poetic". Meanwhile, the performance on ‘Handel Recorder Sonatas' with Richard Egarr is "intense" and a "high-energy tour of the composer's most precious small-scale music. They bring a wonderfully new perspective to some of the recorder's more classic repertoire".
Pamela's debut solo recording ‘Baroque Recorder Concertos' with Sonnerie is "a terrific partnership...the performance defined a new benchmark".
Bernard then discusses Pamela's new release, ‘Ammonite'. Click here for more information on the "intimate and engaging" new recording.
