Gill Manly celebrates 25 years of jazz at the Purcell Room
Gill Manly launches "With a Song in My Heart"
Gill Manly impressed the audience at Soho's Pizza Express Jazz Club with her sophisticated performance on the 17th February. To launch ‘With a Song in My Heart' the jazz singer treated listeners to songs from the album, including I Ain't Got Nothing But the Blues and Sittin' and a Rockin'. In a review in The Times Clive Davis stated that Gill "blew an unpretentious path through songs from the album". He went on to comment: "Her performance, particularly on Midnight Sun and Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most, had an intensity that made the work of many of her younger rivals seem callow by comparison".
The album, which the Sunday Post stated as being "...a treat for lovers of top-notch jazz...", has received fantastic reviews since its release. Scotland on Sunday stated: "...a very feminine, feather-light voice, terrific control and - judging by the selection here - great taste in repertoire and musicians".
