Katherine Bryan debuts on Linn
Linn is pleased to welcome Katherine Bryan to its roster of classical artists. The young flautist is rapidly confirming her place as one of Britain's bright musical stars of the future. Katherine was in the final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year three times which gives some indication of her talent! For her recital debut the in-demand concerto soloist performs a selection of 20th century concertos, including the rarely recorded Liebermann Concerto for Flute and Orchestra.
Katherine was keen to record the Liebermann concerto as she wanted to offer listeners something new, and this was a piece which had been rarely recorded, since its premiere by James Galway who commissioned the piece. Having studied at New York's Julliard School Katherine had an affinity with the composer who is from New York. Katherine, who has met him once before, hopes that in future she may be able commission a new piece!
Listen to Katherine perform live on BBC Radio 3's In Tune programme broadcast on Tuesday 7th September here. Katherine performs three tracks with Scott Mitchell: the first movement from Poulenc's Sonata for Flute and Piano which is included on her recital recording, and two further sonata movements, one from Lowell Liebermann, whose concerto she performs on her recording, and one by Cesar Franck. (Available online until Monday 13th September.)
Katherine talks to presenter Sean Rafferty about the experience of recording with her friends and colleagues at the RSNO where she is principal flute, describing the experience as amazing, fantastic and daunting!
You can hear excerpts from every track on Katherine's new album 'Liebermann Flute Concerto and works by Hue, Poulenc & Nielsen' here. The album is available to download now in Studio Master quality (up to24 / 192) and is available to pre-order on SACD. The album is released on 20th September.
