Van Cliburn Competition: Anna Geniushene Wins Silver Medal
Congratulations to pianist Anna Geniushene, who this weekend was awarded the Silver Medal at the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Throughout the competition Anna performed both works which feature on her debut recording on Linn. In the preliminary round she performed Rachmaninov's Études-tableaux, op. 33 and in the semi-final round she performed Prokofiev's Sonata No. 8 in B-flat Major, op. 84.
For the final Anna performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major, op. 15 and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor, op. 23, with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop.
After hearing Anna's Silver Medal award-winning final performance Gramophone critic Jed Distler commented: "I couldn’t help but equate Anna Geniushene’s seasoned pianism to Cliburn at his best."
