In The Studio: Cappella Nova

With a wealth of premiere performances and celebration concerts planned throughout 2019, Cappella Nova has chosen to mark the occasion of Sir James MacMillan’s 60th birthday with a new recording. Cappella Nova has already recorded three critically acclaimed albums of sacred works by MacMillan and has established an evident a passion for his creativity and an intuitive response to his work. The new recording will be made in Greyfriar’s Kirk in Edinburgh and will feature premiere performances of works which span twenty years of MacMillan’s career. Director Alan Tavener, inspired by Bach’s practice of preparing a different cantata for every Sunday service, encouraged MacMillan to take a similar approach which has resulted in a treasure trove of choral music that, for most, remains undiscovered.
