Robin Ticciati & DSO Berlin - Rachmaninov: Symphony No. 2 - Fono Forum
Music 4.5*
Sound 5*
Robin Ticciati, however, succeeds here in a downright stellar performance. On the one hand this is due to the wonderfully warm, transparent and dynamic sound (...), on the other hand he really conducts the unabridged original version. Above all, however, it is because Ticciati does not dispense with the numerous surface stimuli of the music (both tonally and emotionally), but at no point does he place them in the foreground. The work develops logically from the smallest motivic components. Thus Rachmaninoff sounds equally deeply romantic and symphonically logical under his hands.
