Barb Jungr - Waterloo Sunset - The Times

The thinking person's cabaret singer, Barb Jungr has been on a hot streak lately. Chanson: The Space in Between offered convincingly colloquial translations of Jacques Brel and Léo Ferré; Every Grain of Sand mounted a daring assault on the Bob Dylan songbook. Waterloo Sunset offers a more conventional journey into adult rock territory, but still springs surprises. The arrangement of Cathy's Clown boasts a seductive Grand Old Opry twang. Only Jungr would have the nerve - and the nous - to juxtapose the punchy melody of Richard Thompson's The Great Valerio with the wistful romance of one of Tony Bennett's favourite ballads, When Do the Bells Ring for Me?
