Dunedin Consort - J.S. Bach: Violin Concertos - Daily Mail
Yet another disc of Bach's inexhaustible violin concertos appears, this time using period instruments.
John Butt and his Edinburgh-based Dunedin Consort seem to delight in challenging the supremacy of the London groups, and this time they have two secret weapons.
Their leader, the Dutch-Italiian violinist Cecilia Bernardini, teams up with her father, the oboist Alfredo Bernardini, in a sprightly account of the Concerto for violin and oboe.
The rest of the programme brings the usual three Concertos, the solo ones in E major and A minor and the Double Concerto in D minor, with Huw Daniel as violin co-soloist.
Tempi in the Double Concerto are just a tad too fast for my personal taste, but there is a splendid encore with Alfredo Bernardini playing in the Sinfonia from Cantata No. 21.
