Ensemble Marsyas - Edinburgh 1742 - BBC Radio 3 'Record Review'
Timpani joining the two horn soloists in Barsanti’s Concerto Grosso in D major -…played with tremendous zest and character by horn players Alec Frank-Gemmill and Joseph Walters, with Ensemble Marsyas directed by Peter Whelan. Add a fistful of Barsanti’s Italianate versions of traditional Scot's tunes as well as arias, reminding us of his collaboration in London with Handel, and it’s an excellent reminder of an influential Italian in Edinburgh musical circles. A vibrant recording as well as I hope you can hear.
