Ensemble Marsyas - Fasch - Forbes

In a departure from the usual #CDoftheWeek, this is a bipartite recommendation, because another recent Fasch CD absolutely needs mention: The Quartets (three of them for two oboes, obbligato bassoon, and continuo group) and Concertos (one for bassoon and one for recorder) on the Linn disc with the Ensemble Marsyas absolutely jumps out of the speakers for the vitality of the performances and the audiophile sound. The stormy, virtuosic concertos are especially effective amid the gorgeous, musically emphatic landscape of quartets. For any curious set of ears not yet already on the Fasch-train, these joyful releases would have to be a high priority.
