Gerard Presencer- The Optimist - Jazz Review

That Presencer is one of the brightest stars in the UK jazz firmament is beyond doubt. He has a beautiful burnished tone, especially on the flugelhorn, and fine technique, but above all he plays with such feeling that he is one of the few jazz musicians playing today who can really stop even the most hardened listener in his tracks. I saw him once, with a Peter King group, playing a ballad with such depth of feeling that it made me want to cry (well, almost). Just to confirm my view of him I went back to a '95 recording, again with King, and heard him in superlative command of his instrument.
