Kathleen Tagg’s song cycle This Be Her Verse brings the album to a satisfying close. Commissioned by Schultz and with lyrics by Lila Palmer. It’s an evocative, distinctive work, and it’s clear that Schultz relishes each dramatic scenario, by turns wistful and ferocious, lavishing a stream of golden tone on one phrase before bleaching her soprano of all colour. A highly recommended listen.
