Julien Chauvin & Le Concert de la Loge - Mozart: Violin Concerto - Gramophone
The Jupiter Symphony receives a strong performance, aside from subtly dissimilar tempos for the alternating gruff and lyrical opening themes in the first movement and a big ‘wait for it’ pause as the delirious counterpoint of the finale careers into the breathtaking coda (gratifyingly, all repeats are taken). The churning unease of the Andante cantabile is caught well and the Minuet trips along at a believable tempo, with cheeky portamentos in the chromatic opening theme (and a magnificent horn blooper at 1'21").
... This is a satisfying programme, admirably presented.
