The Orchestra of the Americas & Carlos Miguel Prieto - de Falla - BBC Radio Scotland 'Classics Unwrapped'

My Album of the Week this week features the music of Manuel de Falla and Enrique Granados. Two greats who helped cement Spain's musical standing in the world. Playing this evocative and stunningly beautiful music is The Orchestra of the Americas, a world-class symphony orchestra of young musicians, aged 18-30, representing 25 different nations. The conductor happens to be the Mexican Carlos Miguel Prieto, who was the orchestra's first Principal Conductor. Let's listen to some de Falla, or Don Manuel as he was respectfully called, this is from his ballet The Three Cornered Hat. It was premiered 101 years ago this July in London and it was an instant hit.
