Perfect Houseplants - New Folk Songs - West Briton
A unique collaboration between four of the most distinctive voices in modern British music comes to Cornwall next month.
Perfect Houseplants - Mark Lockheart (saxophones and clarinet), Huw Warren (piano, cello and accordion), Dudley Philips (acoustic and electric basses) and Martin France (drums and electronic percussion - is acknowledged as being "at the cutting edge of contemporary music").
The group's innovative approach to composition and individual virtuoso skills combine with humorous and subtle interplay to give the group a unique and special voice.
Individually, the members of the Perfect Houseplants have played and recorded ith a glittering array of international artists including Dave Holland, Django Bates, Kenny Wheller, June Tabor, Prefab Sprout and Billy Hart. Recent performances include the Bath Festival, Vienna Jazz Festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival and La Biennale di Venezia.
On this tour, the group will be performing material from its new project - New Folk Songs - which started as a commission by Easter Arts as part of the 1999 Andrew Milne Award. The compositions take their original inspiration from both the landscape and traditional music of East Anglia with the emphasis firmly on creating new contemporary compositions. The Album will be released on Linn Records in January 2011.
