Thomas Søndergård & RSNO - Prokofiev: Symphonies 1 & 5 - Pizzicato

Prokofievs verspielte Erste Symphonie, die Klassische, stellt Thomas Sondergard der dramatischen Fünften gegenüber und zeigt dabei so manche Gemeinsamkeit der beiden im Grunde gegensätzlichen Werke.

Ohne die Tempi zu überziehen gibt der Dirigent der Klassischen ihren genuinen Charakter. Einem fein ziselierten Allegro folgen ein feines Larghetto und eine bedeutungsvoll tänzelnde Gavotte sowie ein leichtes und beschwingtes Finale.

Danach dirigiert Sondergard eine gut ausgelotete, nicht zu schwere Fünfte, in der er, ohne den dramatischen Impakt zu mindern, auf Transparenz, Kantabilität und vor allem auf Farben achtet. Seine Interpretation ist eine der farbigsten, die ich kenne. Doch das reicht noch nicht, um die Interpretation zu beschreiben. Denn anders als andere Dirigenten, die diese Symphonie mit satten und dunklen Farben oft bedrohlich werden lassen, privilegiert Sondergard, wenn möglich, helle Farben.

Den Finalsatz gestaltet er leicht und locker und schlägt so, trotz der ruhigeren Phasen, eine Brücke zur Ersten Symphonie.

Das Orchester aus Glasgow leistet unter Sondergards Stabführung eine großartige Arbeit, und die Techniker haben die Musik wohl auch so plastisch wiedergeben, wie er sie mit seinen Musikern gestaltet.

Thomas Sondergard juxtaposes Prokofiev’s playful First Symphony, the Classical, with the dramatic Fifth, showing many similarities between the two fundamentally different works. Without overdoing the tempi, the conductor gives the Classical Symphony its genuine character. A finely shaped Allegro is followed by a lovely Larghetto and a meaningfully dancing Gavotte as well as a light and lively Finale. Sondergard then conducts a well-balanced, not too heavy Fifth, in which he pays attention to transparency, cantabile and above all to colour without diminishing the dramatic impact. His interpretation is one of the most colourful I know. But that is not enough to describe the interpretation. For unlike other conductors, who often make this symphony threatening with rich and dark colours, Sondergard privileges light colours whenever it is possible.
