Trevor Pinnock - Journey - Financial Times
The journey of the title refers to the European travels of the Spanish composer Antonio de Cabezón in the 16th century. It could also, though, refer to Trevor Pinnock's own musical journey.
His 40 years of experience as a harpsichordist (not to mention conductor) is reflected in a wide range of music that leads from the Italy of Scarlatti and Frescobaldi to the England of Byrd and Tallis.
A formidable sense of rhythm underpins all the playing.
As the disc's centrepiece, Bach's French Suite No. 6 in E major exudes authority - nothing flash or rushed, just the wisdom of maturity.
