Biography
Christopher Bell has been conducting and presenting family and holiday style concerts for over twenty-five years. His free and easy conversational style with audiences of all ages coupled with quirky and fun programming have endeared him to concert audiences in his birthplace in Belfast, his current home in Scotland and further afield in Chicago, Australia and New Zealand. Bell's willingness to don a costume or motivate an audience to participate puts smiles on faces of tens of thousands of people annually.
Alongside twelve Christmas concerts a year, he has conducted Viennese programmes, come and play events and he has directed orchestras playing film soundtracks, most recently the RSNO's accompaniment to The Wizard of Oz. He has conducted and presented the annual Independence Eve concert in Chicago since 2005.
Balancing this lighter side, Bell is known as a leading choral director working to the highest possible standards in exactly the same parts of the world. He is currently Chorus Director of the Grant Park Festival Chorus in Chicago preparing its chorus of up to 120 professional singers for six separate programmes in the summer. Since 2007 he has been Chorusmaster of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus re-establishing them as one of the leading volunteer choruses in Europe. He is the founder director of the National Youth Choir of Scotland and since 1996 has moulded that organization into one of the finest youth companies in Europe. In addition he is Director of the RSNO Junior Chorus, a 300 voice children's choir working with the RSNO for concerts, broadcasts and recordings.
On the Signum label, his recording with the RSNO Junior Chorus and the RSNO, A Family Christmas, captures the fun of his live concerts, whilst his recordings of Ceremony of Carols and The Lindbergh Flight with the NYCoS National Girls Choir show the high standards of his youth ensembles.
