Sean Shibe is a rising star and is making history in the guitar world.
Biography
Born in Edinburgh in 1992, Sean Shibe studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He currently studies with Paolo Pegoraro for whose continued support he is very grateful. In 2012 he became the first guitarist selected for the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists Scheme, and the only solo guitarist to be awarded a Borletti- Buitoni Trust Fellowship.
Shibe has appeared as soloist with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He recorded Toru Takemitsu’s To the Edge of Dream with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and performed with the BBC Singers which was broadcast live by BBC Radio 3.
Concert highlights include his debut solo recital at Wigmore Hall, taking part in the Benjamin Britten celebrations in Aldeburgh and the Marlboro Summer Music Festival and Academy in the US on the invitation of Mitsuko Uchida.
Drawn to chamber music and song, Shibe has collaborated with the Danish String Quartet, harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani, tenor Robin Tritschler and tenor Ben Johnson, as well as cellist Isang Enders and tenor Robert Murray. He has given recitals at the Heidelberger-Frühling, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Bath International and Aldeburgh Festivals. Shibe was selected to be represented by the Young Classical Artists Trust in 2015, and in February 2016 was featured artist in BBC Music Magazine's Classical Guitar Special.
