Gothic Voices - Nowell synge we bothe al and som - The Sunday Times
As the name suggests, Gothic Voices are medieval specialists, and their programme of 12th- to 15th-century music is another festive selection. They begin with Veni, o sapientia, but even as long as five centuries ago, Christmas was a vernacular feast, as the various Nowells make clear. Nothing is more striking than Catherine King’s pure-voiced solo Lullay, Lullay, Als I lay — at more than nine minutes, by far the longest track here. It’s mesmerising.
