Dunedin Consort - Monteverdi: Vespers 1610 - Financial Times

On the 450th anniversary of Monteverdi’s birth it was always likely that somebody would produce an interesting and high-quality recording of one of his greatest achievements, the Vespers of 1610. John Butt and his Dunedin Consort, based in Edinburgh, step forward to take the honours. Informed by a judicious weighing-up of current scholarship, Butt’s performance is often one voice to a part, giving the music an intimate feel. With His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts also sparingly used, this is Monteverdi small in scale, a virtuoso display of individual talents.
