Anna Prohaska & Patricia Kopatchinskaja - Maria Mater Meretrix - The Times
This was all about the joy of the journey. Eclecticism was one of its strengths. Take the three opening works: we moved from the faux-ancient feel of Holst’s spare and haunting Jesu Sweet, a song for voice and violin, back to the medieval Palästinalied, complete with drumbeat and drones, then landed in George Crumb’s otherworldly God-Music from Black Angels, a canvas of ethereal bowed water-glass sounds.
