Bach - Nigel North - The Scotsman

THE wonderful thing about Bach's music is its inherent transportability from one instrument to another. His partitas and sonatas for solo violin, and the suites for unaccompanied cello are a case in point, having been transcribed for everything from guitar to organ. This budget reissue of Nigel North's tasteful transfers to the lute is welcome, once again making available in the shops a box set that was exquisite the first time round. North's intelligent playing - nothing is overstated, simply played for what it is - has a natural eloquence. He makes none of it seem as difficult as it is, and the arrangements are distinctive but true to the music.
