You heard the voices of Sophie Bevan and Iestyn Davies as the two Marys with that opening confrontation at the gates of Hell impressively realised by the Angel of Lucy Crowe and the formidable Lucifer of Ashley Riches. All of them emphasise the theatrical immediacy and the instrumental virtuosity of Handel's version of the Easter story. It's a fine achievement which is why it's my Record of the Week.
