Ensemble Marsyas - Zelenka Sonatas - Daily Telegraph
Some decades ago, the Bohemian Baroque composer Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745) enjoyed a renaissance. His star subsequently dipped, but this excellent disc brings him back into the limelight with three sonatas featuring solo oboes, bassoon and, in one, a violin as well. The brilliant playing of Ensemble Marsyas is fully equal to Zelenka's virtuoso demands, and the music's vivacity is matched by its elegance.
