Finzi - James Gilchrist - Northumberland Journal
Gerald Finzi's habit of filing songs in a drawer left some two dozen unpublished at his death in 1956. Oh Fair to See (poems by Hardy, Rossetti, Shanks, Gurney, Blunden and Bridges) and Till Earth Outwears were posthumously gathered into sets, A Young Man's Exhortation was his first published Thomas Hardy set, with piano. Tenor James Gilchrist keeps faith with Finzi's belief that the music should serve the poetry. Pianist Anna Tilbrook contours each phrase exactly.
