Garden of Early Delights - Pamela Thorby & Andrew Lawrence-King - Scotland on Sunday
This collection of music from the 16th and 17th centuries aims to bring to life a repertoire "full of surprise, beauty and delight", in recorder player Pamela Thorby's words, and there is much to enjoy in the works by composers from the Low Countries, England, Spain and Italy.
The recorder can be somewhat 'in your face', especially compared with the other instruments featured - the harp and psaltery, both played by Andrew Lawrence-King - but there's no denying the quality of performance and works themselves.
A well-rounded introduction to instrumental music of the period that repays repeated listening.
