Handel's Acis & Galatea [Live] - Dunedin Consort - The Times
Did any other composer in the British Isles ever create anything so unadulteratedly lovely as Acis and Galatea? Handel’s music is a sensuous delight, a heart-meltingly beautiful string of arias that celebrates love and joy. It felt particularly gorgeous as played with flowing beauty by the Dunedin Consort and shaped with affection by their director, John Butt. He caressed every phrase in a way that brought out its sensual colour, starting with the opening chorus, which he took slower than usual so that it paused to enjoy the view rather than bustling its way into mere scene-setting.
