Maurice Ravel Volume Two - Artur Pizarro - Listener
This Portuguese pianist's dignified and delicate Pavan ensures it's the Princess who's dead, not the Pavan. His clear and intense Sonatina slows poetically where it should linger. The Valses Nobles et Sentimentales has sharply etched individuality in each piece. In Tombeau de Couperin, his Rigaudon is aptly angular and square cut. His virtuosic Toccata is the 78-minute CD's finale with a powerful and dramatic verve.
