Mozart Colloredo Serenade & Divertimento - SCO & Alexander Janiczek - The Herald
At first glance, the SCO's newest addition to its Mozart Series on Linn looks like another functional, multi-movement Serenade, albeit one of a very superior quality. But the Colloredo Serenade, gloriously played by the SCO with Alexander Janiczek directing from the solo violin in an unusually relaxed and broad style, is a wonderful conundrum and deliciously subversive: it's like a play within a play, and its complex box of delights contains a prefatory march, a full symphony, an interpolated violin concerto and an extra minuet to boot, all wrapped up in a package of informal music for university end-of-term celebrations.
