Bruckner, by contract, seems to inite superlative assessments, at least for a handful of recordings each year. The first here, Anthony Payne's chamber version of the Second Symphony, seemed an oddity on paper, but turned out to be a real success. Jonathan Freeman-Attwood, principal of the Royal Academy of Music, deserves much of the credit for concieving the idea, but so too Payne for his sensitive (yet powerful) arrangement, the RAM students and Trevor Pinnock for a performance that would do any professional ensemble proud, and Linn for sound engineering of the very highest standard.
