Chiyan Wong Wins Liszt Prize
Chiyan Wong's debut recording on Linn has won the Grand Prix, 1st prize, in the Liszt Ferenc Társaság's 40th Grand Prix Competition! If you haven't already heard his award-winning album, 'Liszt Transfigured: Operatic Fantasies for Piano', give it a listen today.
When Chiyan chose the phenomenally difficult Liszt transcriptions he decided to apply Liszt's own advice regarding transcriptions, concentrating on communicating the spirit and intention of the music whilst applying his own personal touches.
In its review Gramophone wrote, 'Beyond the dazzling technical polish he brings to these fiendishly challenging pieces, most striking is Wong's sincerity of purpose.'
Congratulations to Chiyan!
