Austrian baritone Florian Boesch is counted as one of today’s foremost Lieder interpreters with appearances at Wigmore Hall London, Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna, Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Philharmonie Cologne, Philharmonie Luxemburg, Edinburgh and Schwetzingen Festivals as well as throughout the USA, Canada, and Australia.
As a frequent guest on the concert platform Boesch has worked with leading orchestras such as Wiener and Berliner Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, London Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, and conductors such as Ivor Bolton, Riccardo Chailly, Gustavo Dudamel, Adam Fischer, Iván Fischer, Valery Gergiev, Philippe Herreweghe, Sir Roger Norrington, Sir Simon Rattle, Robin Ticciati, Franz Welser-Möst, and Nikolaus Harnoncourt.
Boesch also appears on the opera stage; he sang Zebul in Handel’s Jephta at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, in a new production of Purcell’s Fairy Queen at the Theater an der Wien as well as Méphistohélès in Berlioz’ La damnation de Faust at the Staatsoper im Schillertheater in Berlin. Further successes in the past were Schubert’s Lazarus, Handel’s Messiah and Weill’s Die Dreigroschenoper at the Theater an der Wien, Wozzeck in Cologne, or Così fan tutte at the Salzburg Festival.
His recordings of Lieder and ballads have been highly acclaimed by the international press and he received amongst others the prestigious Edison Klassiek Award. Die schöne Müllerin was nominated for a 2015 Grammy Award in the category Best Classical Solo Vocal. He was also a Finalist in the Solo Vocal category of the 2017 Gramophone Awards.
Boesch received his initial vocal training from Ruthilde Boesch and later studied lied and oratorio with Robert Holl in Vienna.
