WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne Chamber Players
In 2016 five musicians of the renowned WDR Symphony Orchestra founded the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne Chamber Players: a string quintet with a seemingly unusual line-up of two violins, two violas and cello that nonetheless comprises the optimal forces for combining symphonic dimensions with the subtle refinements of chamber music
Biography
Their debut CD of the two String Quintets by Brahms was awarded the prestigious Diapason d’or, also receiving high praise in the international press for its ‘boundless sensuousness’, ‘refined colouring’ and ‘intensity’. Barely a year after its foundation, the ensemble was already engaged in a tour of China, appearing in the main concert halls of Shanghai and Peking. With their concerts at the Cologne Philharmonie and throughout Germany, their engagements at European festivals and their many radio broadcasts, the WDR Chamber Players have become ambassadors for the WDR Symphony Orchestra.
